Photography in Patagonia - Argentina & Chile
bar
Patagonia has a way of capturing your heart the moment you arrive. Stretching across both Argentina and Chile, this vast region is home to some of the most dramatic and photogenic landscapes on Earth—soaring granite peaks, turquoise lakes, massive glaciers, and wide-open skies that seem to go on forever. Over the years, I've been fortunate to visit Patagonia more than ten times, exploring both Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, and every trip feels as fresh and inspiring as the first.
Accessing The Best Locations
One of the best things about Patagonia is that you don't need to be a mountaineer to enjoy and photograph its beauty. While I've camped and hiked extensively here in the past, I've also discovered countless viewpoints and landscapes that are either right off the road or just a short walk away. This makes Patagonia accessible to everyone, and it allows us to focus more on creating stunning images rather than enduring long treks.

The Los Glaciares National Park
In Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park, the town of El Calafate provides easy access to the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier. There are boardwalks and viewing platforms that bring you close enough to hear the ice crack and calve into the turquoise waters below. Nearby, Lago Argentino offers incredible views, especially when floating icebergs drift across its surface, glowing blue in the changing light. In El Chaltén, short trails and roadside stops give you breathtaking views of Mount Fitz Roy and the surrounding spires, often reflected in small ponds or framed by golden lenga and ñire trees in the fall.

The Torres del Paine National Park
Across the border in Chile's Torres del Paine National Park, photography opportunities are just as rewarding—and many are wonderfully accessible. Lago Pehoé is one of my favorite spots, with its mirror-like water reflecting the jagged Paine Massif, especially at sunrise. Salto Grande waterfall is just a short walk from the road and offers dynamic compositions of rushing water with towering peaks in the background. Even simply driving through the park reveals countless photo stops—rolling hills, guanacos grazing in open fields, and lenticular clouds forming above the mountains. The views are so spectacular you hardly need to go far to capture something extraordinary.

The Workshop
When I design my Patagonia Photography Workshops, I keep accessibility and comfort in mind. Many of my clients are retired, and I want everyone to feel at ease while still experiencing the thrill of photographing these world-class landscapes. We'll stay in comfortable accommodations, enjoy good meals, and I'll take you to the best spots at the best times of day for light and atmosphere. From golden sunrises over Fitz Roy to moody clouds swirling above Torres del Paine, every moment holds the potential for unforgettable images.

An Unforgettable Experience
What makes Patagonia especially magical for photography is its constantly changing weather. Mist drifts across the lakes, sudden shafts of light break through stormy skies, and clouds wrap around the mountains in endlessly new shapes. This variety ensures that no two visits are ever alike - every workshop brings unique opportunities, even for me after ten trips.
